I can't say I disagree with the criticisms leveled at DEADLY
HONEYMOON. I also wondered why the bad guys didn't simply
kill the young couple once they'd had their fun, and the
detective and combat skills the newlyweds instantly developed
did stretch credibility.
Nonetheless, I found it fast-moving, readable, and
professionally constructed. I also found the basic situation
compelling. Not my favorite his work, but, as is almost
always the case with Block, an enjoyable read.
I'm wondering why there's been so little comment on Block's
short fiction during this month and the last. I mentioned
here that I found his award-winning Scudder short story, "By
the Dawn's Early Light," superior to the expanded
novel-length version, WHEN THE SACRED GINMILL CLOSES. Did
anyone else have the same reaction?
