I was reading Frank Morgan's obit in the Washington Post
today when I ran across this:
"Once asked why so many jazz musicians became addicts, he
replied: 'It's about being hip. Jazz musicians would rather
be dead than not be hip.'"
Don't know if it's hardboiled or noir (if either)), but it
seemed to relate to the lit we discuss. Narcotics as femme
fatale? A jazz or hardboiled facade leading to a noir
end?
