In what way "surpassed"? Kingsley Amis was technically a much
better writer than Ian Fleming, but his COLONEL SUN was, in
my opinion, a pretty pale Jame Bond. I generally note that
writers who pick up earlier writers' characters seldom do
themselves or the inventor credit. In what way was Perowne an
exception to this?
