Thanks, Jim, for the correction no. 2! It seems that Deming's book is the first TV-based novelization, which is probably why I got it mixed with Prather's book.

I think, though, that Ed's original question was about TV-related tie-ins, not tie-ins generally. Sure, there was that stuff already in the beginning of the century.
