"Didn't Westlake get Dortmunder and friends into a Parker
novel?"
Other way around. In Jimmy the Kid, the Dortmunder gang
models a kidnapping on a Parker book. Chapters of Parker's
competent work alternate with the Dortmunders' less skillful
execution. Parker author, Richard Stark, even makes a brief
appearance in the form of letter from his lawyer about the
copyright infringement of the "based on a true story" film
made about the case. The lawyer advises he may be able to sue
the kidnappers for stealing his idea, but not
moviemakers.
