I agree. The point of a literary debate is to gain vision
rather than reach certainty. The process is similar to
looking at a great painting. You are never done with it.
Besides, people are not very likely to obey any literary or
artistic certainties proclaimed by others. Which is a way of
saying: each reader counts and each reading counts as a new
game. A teenager reading Chandler today for the first time
will see it as part of his own game. That's the way it's
always been with literature and the other arts.
