It's not unusual that Howard Browne would reference the
McGivern novel. McGivern was a friend who wrote often for
Browne in the pages of his Ziff-Davis pulps Amazing Stories,
Mammoth Detective and Mammoth Mystery. I think he also
contributed to Mammoth Western. Some of the stories were
published under a different name and -- I'm not looking at my
references here -- I think it was Berkley Livingston.
In later years, as novelists, both Browne and McGivern shared
the same agent, who wrote under the name James M. Fox.
