Thanks for pointing out this very cool article, Al. I've read
Himes and Slim, Nathan Heard (his Howard Street is amazing).
I've got a number of the other mentioned authors on my
shelves, but haven't read them. (I tend to pick up most
Holloway House books I see of a certain vintage.) Nice to
have someone pointing out the best. For instance, I'd heard
Goines was very hit and miss. Nice to have a specific
recommendation of Daddy Cool, of which I have an old Holloway
House first printing (marred by someone using the list of
Goines's titles at the beginning as a checklist, not to say
it's near mint condition otherwise). Interestingly, the ads
in the back pages include one for Kenyatta's Escape by Al C.
Clark; this is now credited to Goines.
