Metzger's Dog was a lot of fun. I too related it to Ross Thomas. I also read Butcher's Boy by Perry, but it was a totally different style
(not a complaint, just an observation), about a hit man being pursued by other hit men. Decades since I've read these, but I remember them fondly. Not sure why I didn't continue to read his books.
