Don't you think these torture scenes are written "as though
the camera hadn't been invented"? My complaint about a lot of
current fiction --I won't single out noir or mystery writers
especially-- is that they are bloated, sometimes outrageously
so. Material that would make perhaps for a good longish short
story is made to fit the length of a novel. I have trouble
accepting this, I feel conned. My reaction is to abandon such
novels and, if necessary, take their authors from my
automatic read list. I don't like bullshit.
