But, as with the others you cite, he unended it. Grimhaven,
which certainly would have tainted the main character beyond
repair, was written after Miami Blues, what became the first
of the series. Three books followed. They incorporated some
of the elements of Grimhaven, but not the ending. And the
fourth book certainly does not seem like an ending, more like
a new beginning, as Hoke comes out changed at the end
(along with some big changes in the lives of other series
regulars). Unfortunately, Willeford died and we never got to
see where he'd take the character. Or other characters in
other books if it was intended as the end.
