I'm entirely inclined to agree although I doubt I've read as
many as you have. If you allow "noir" to include the pulp
tradition, then that's where the confusion may be. And by the
way, your definition of noir is very close to mine or we
share the same sensibility in that area or whatever.
I'm currently working on an essay about Hendricks and Abbott
and some of these very ideas have come up although to say
that much isn't really fair since it seems to tinge them with
a criticism of them that I may not have.
Any way, the short stack is that I agree with you.
