PBOs.

Richard Moore noted here some time back that Vonnegut had intelligently reviewed John D. MacDonald, in at least one venue more likely to hire someone inadequate to the task, as well. And his "All the King's Men" is a fine, if gimmicky, and mildly brutal wartime suspense story.
