I read THE ROAD as a straight story. Maybe it's allegorical.
I didn't find it postmodern.
************** The boy is a Christ-image, isn't he? There are
several allusions to this. He swims in the lake. That's
baptism. He shows more compassion for people than his
world-wise father. When he's sick, it's three days and
nights. That's resurrection in my book. But as you say, just
a straight story is a great way to read it.
