I think Dennis Lahane gets his due.
Dan Brown? Who said he was a great writer? Hardly anybody
overrates him--they hardly rate him at all. He wrote a
page-turner and managed to bring heretofore obscure
facts.
Great Mystery? Nay, I nailed the big bad guy as soon as he
appeared.
If Dan Brown has another best-seller, it will do the same
thing: bring forth a bunch of obscure facts that we didn't
know much about along with cardboard characters, and rapid,
suspenseful action.
The secret to the best seller: give the reading public
something they didn't know they wanted. The problem is that
they don't know it until they see it.
