A great story, Richard. Thanks for sharing!

It kinda reminded me of my own army days in Vaasa in the early 1980
´s , when I was reading Chandler in English at nights and the other boys were cursing me for the light. 'Fucking intellectual', etc. Anyway, most of the times they did let me read.
