I've always thought that the idea behind Altman's THE LONG
GOODBYE and Brackett's screenplay behind that was that it
would've been what Chandler himself had written if he'd lived
to the seventies (or indeed having created most of his work
then).
I like the film very much, save for the ending, which is too
funny for the rest of the film. Why the harmonica? It's not
necessary.
