Just finished this novel by Joe Gores. What a great book!
Loved it. I started this immediately after finishing
Willeford's Shark-Infested Custard, and it didn't take ten
pages into Dead Man to sense the difference in style. Gores's
prose is alive and dynamic. The characters are vivid and
interesting, and Gores interweaves subtle nuances throughout
the book.
I've read a few others by him, Interface, Come Morning, and
Cases. I think that Interface has been mentioned here as
perhaps the greatest detective story ever written. Cases,
although it is obviously a collection of short stories
roughly patched together into a novel, is still a great book.
Come Morning was OK. I think I've exhausted all my unread
Gores novels. Time to stock up.
