Interesting question, been a while since I saw this one. My
vote would go to James Ellroy if I had to pick one.
Picking a few more I would say Richard Stark, Paul Cain (Fast
One), Dashiell Hammett (Red Harvest), George V Higgins (The
Friends of Eddie Coyle) and Ken Bruen.
