As usual, great reviews, Doug. I haven't read anything by Hamilton other than A Cold Day in Paradise. My impression matched yours and I wasn't inclined to try another. The first shootout scene in Smoker rang false to me. I didn't believe it and Rucka gave me no reason to suspend disbelief. I didn't finish it. I haven't read anything by Doolittle or Simmons. Thanks for the heads-up on them.
