With reprints, I certainly prefer some background info
about
the work, much like good liner notes to a classic
album reissue.
I definitely wait until I've read the book
though, so I can't say
I consider them an "introduction." I do prefer
them to be specific
to the novel at hand, as opposed to a series that
will use the same
stock bio for each edition.
