I'll go along with Ed and Dick. The Carl Wilcox books are a
real treat, a sort of sepia-toned noir about a itinerant sign
painter
(which was how Woody Guthrie supported himself at times) who
connives his way into widow's beds and murder cases.
Fortunately, the dinky Dakota town Wilcox lives in has almost
as many murders as Flether's Cove.
It's as if Hammett wrote BOUND FOR GLORY...
