It happens all the time with hacks who ghost-write series,
for example, romance novels. They pay you to write a
particular sort of thing, with a very well-defined
ideological foundation. You can't really violate that. I
don't think very many writers would write inconsistently with
their views if free to do so.
Speaking of views, does anyone here have any idea what Jim
Thompson's worldviews were? I find him very hard to figure
out, the hardest of all noir writers. He seems to defy
analysis.
