I was reading Wikipedia's entry on Dr. Seuss today and
noticed it said he was a friend of Raymond Chandler's. Sure
enough, it's true. Here's a quote from RAYMOND CHANDLER: A
BIOGRAPHY by Tom Hiney (1997).
"If Cissy [Mrs. Chandler] was well enough to be left alone,
Chandler would go to the nearby El Toro bar to meet up with
the reporter Neil Morgan and Morgan's local friends; John
Latimer, a crime novelist and screenwriter; Max Miller, also
a screenwriter, and Theodor Geisel, author of the Doctor
Seuss cartoon books. They would meet up in the early evening
and often drink through until two in the morning."
Chandler, Jonathan [no H] Latimer, Dr. Seuss, and a
screenwriter and a reporter! What a hell of a drinking
session.
