Somebody mentioned this recently. I just finished it.
I didn't like it as much as I, The Jury. I'm not a big
stickler for realistic plots, but there were more than a
couple points that required a liberal nod to fictional
license. The cop Pat is remains a poorly developed character.
Delighted me to see Mike quoting Shakespeare, though. My Gun
is Quick doesn't do much to bolster Spillane haters who
declare Hammer's misogyny. Hammer shows a fair amount of
sensitivity to the female predicament in the book. In noir
it's not hard to draw the line between the good girl and the
femme fatale. Spillane appears to be big into the fallen
angel.
Loading up for vacation now. We'll make a trip to the
bookstore this weekend for a few new ones. I'm getting a
hankering for some more Southern Gothic. Maybe Faulkner.
Maybe Larry Brown or Cormac McCarthy.
