Ha! Good one.
As for the lack of Hamilton references, it happens so often
that disappointment is beyond being useless. If you live in
the centre of the universe (Toronto) a place like Hamilton,
30 miles away, is back of beyond. This does seem to be
changing lately, however, so maybe the next time location is
forgotten, I may, in fact, be disappointed again.
What fascinates me is what a good murder reveals about a
particular community at a specific time, the way The Black
Dahlia reveals LA and its Hollywood dreams compared to, say,
the OJ Simpson case. For an industrial backwater with a
relatively short history, Hamilton has a long, cherished
history of gore, of which the Dick murder is just one of the
better known.
(Which is why Toronto needs to adopt it as its own, of
course.)
Thanks for this, Kerry
