It has been announced that Joe Gores will write a prequel
novel to The Maltese Falcon. To be titled Spade & Archer,
it will tell how Sam Spade and Miles Archer came to start a
detective agency together.
Joe says he will write the book in the third-person objective
point of view, the same as the original novel.
This is Joe's dream project; he has been trying to get the
rights together for years. Publication date should be fall
2007. Knopf will publish.
