I'm sure Vachss is just exercising that most well-known author rule: "Write about what you know." I don't have any problem with his leanings in his novels. You know that is what you're going to get when you read Vachss.

If I read Ellroy, I don't expect Mills & Boon. If I read Vachss, I don't expect Bill O'Reilly.

(Then again, no one expects Bill O'Reilly...)
