I got hardback editions of Patricia Highsmith's SELECTED
STORIES and the Everyman Library collection of the first
three Ripley stories. I don't think Highsmith is really a hb
or noir writer -- a closer formulation is probably Roald Dahl
crossed with the finest of the American psychological
thriller writers
-- but she's often talked about here, so there you are.
At any event she's a genius, one of America's genuinely great
post WW 2 writers, I think.
I also have the latest couple of Hard Cases, THE GIRL WITH
THE LONG GREEN HEART by Block and McBain's GUTTER AND THE
GRAVE lying around.
