Got to see the first episode of this one on HBO On Demand the
other week, and was struck by how much atmosphere was on
display, but how slim the motivation and plot seemed in
comparison. But, then, I can believe it improves as it goes
along...certainly the CBC's DA VINCI'S INQUEST, getting its
first US run in syndication this season in a rather jumbled
fashion, seems to have improved enormously in its first year,
and perhaps got a bit clumsy or rushed by its fourth. (But
perhaps that's a function of editing to make room for the
commercials.) And I was glad to see the Australian WATER RATS
recently pop up in the Philadelphia market, after seeing it
years earlier in DC.
