Mafia Noir is certainly not a rarity. Maybe it's the US
mafia, as topic, which became out of fashion as it's not the
top of organized crime anymore.
Fortunately (?) other countries are reviving the flame, like
Russian mafia, Chinese mafia, Colombian mafia, Yakusas and
more, all of which we found now heavy traces in contemporary
noir.
Coming back to the classic mafia, do not forget the novels by
Max Allan Collins, built around historical figures of the
wise guys: there was the excellent: NEON MIRAGE- 1988 (about
Bugsy Siegel's Las Vegas), TRUE DETECTIVE, THE MILLION-DOLLAR
WOUND... all from his Nat Heller series.
Also some of the novels by E. Richard Johnson .
And there are much more.
