I wonder if Poe's "The Black Cat" could be considered the
first noir story?I might be opening up an argument here, but
if so, he'd be the "Father of Noir, as well as the "Father of
the Short Story," the "Father of Science Fiction," and the
"Father of Detective Fiction." He might have started literary
criticism too, but who needs that!
