Y'alls conversation got me to thinking about why would a
person with a truly bleak outlook on life get up and do
anything. The reason i picked this particular snippet from
Kerry's thoughtful response is because it related to one
answer that occured to me. No matter how bleak your outlook,
the biology of your life is going to kick in and say "Hey,
send a little food down here!"
So it's eat or suffer. Possibly it is eat and suffer, but
definitly eating gets the gut to quiet down for a bit. And of
course if your gonna eat, you gotta have food, and do the
things necesarry to acquire food. Well if you gotta do this
stuff anyway, shouldn't it be fun? So possibly Alinsky
thought starting neighborhood organizations was fun,
pointless or not. It's something to do while putting food on
the table, even if very loosley related.
My point? Maybe even the deeply noir are foiled in there
outlook by biological imperatives.
