I live in Hawaii and I didn't start reading noir fiction
until I was middle-aged. I like the classic authors
(Chandler, Thompson, Cain, Hammett etc.) more than the newer
forensic-oriented writers.
I have written 2 noir novellas (1 published as a paperback),
several noir short stories (two of which were published by
magazines) and a noir screenplay adapted from one of my short
stories (as yet unproduced).
Charles Bukowski is one of my favorite authors, but I'm not
sure if he is considered noir. "Barfly" was the funniest
movie I ever saw about the seedy side of life.
I also write mainstream fiction (2 books published), but I
continue to be fascinated by noir fiction. Blame it on TV. I
grew up watching (and loving) old noir films on a Chicago
station.
One question: Can we post original noir fiction here?
