I second the mention of Cormac McCarthy.
Woe to Live on by Daniel Woodrell is terrific, though some
may consider it a war novel more than a western. If we are
getting hung up on defintions, then I hasten to add the book
is tough. As for colloquial...not so much.
I also enjoyed The Master Executioner by Loren D. Esteleman
as well.
