Hi, John, Sorry to make you "harrumph"! I was hoping
you'd have a comment. After talking to you about Ig Love,
those years ago, I really thought that the sex scene was the
main problem. That was an overstatement about "feeding me the
commercial idea...." I didn't mean to imply that your
statement wasn't true--I always felt that the cut was due to
both the sexual issue and the detective issue, but didn't
understand which was the priority. It's been a long time, and
what stuck in my mind was your saying that I'd done things
that couldn't be done, and I thought it was mainly the sexual
content and not the placement of it. I also didn't realize
the extent that putting in a detective affects the perception
of the novel. I wish I would have. Now I'm wondering about
the detective in Cruel Poetry. He could be next to get the
