I wish to bring to all Rara-Avians the publishing on the
internet of the first (of many) issues of a new Magazine
called Europolar.
The Editorial of the first installment explains the
purpose:
"e d i t o
Europolar is a multi-lingual site for fans of European crime
fiction, featuring up to date news about the crime fiction
world, mainly from Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain,
Italy, and Spain.
It will also showcase the work of European writers and
highlight topical debates and discussions - both about crime
fiction and relating to wider issues of European
relevance.
Its brief is to keep readers up to speed about new and
exciting developments in contemporary crime fiction across a
range of languages and cultures."
You can find the English page at:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/arts.sombres/polar/Templates/edito_angl.htm
Each issue has four sections: news, fiction, tribune and
special files
This Magazine is multi-languages
(French/English/Spanish/German) and I have had the pleasure
to participate to the translation of several articles into
English. There is a strong incentive to bring in more
languages (Italian...) as writers and specialists from other
European nations join the fold, and with the availability of
translators.
The driving force behind Europolar is Claude Mespl褥 that some
of you may know as a critique, erudite and above all fan of
crime fiction and whose most recent accomplishment was the
acclaimed and very successful Dictionnaire des litt鲡tures
polici貥s (Joseph K., Nantes) in 2003. I understand that
rara-avian and journalist Brad Spurgeon has interviewed him
in the past for his activities for crime fiction.
Enjoy this new website that serves so well the cause of crime
fiction as a thriving literary genre.
