I read SQUEEZE PLAY, by James McKimmey (1962, but I read last
year's Fast Lane reprint). There was quite a bit of talk on
the list about McKimmey when Mr. Guthrie did his special on
him, which is all linked from this first chapter of the
book:

The femme fatale is a bad, bad woman, pulling a big con at a
casino. She can go from being a prim and refined secretary
one minute to panting on a telephone to convince a helper
she's barely able to restrain her sexual needs.
This is the second McKimmey book I've read, and I've liked
them both. One thing that struck me about this one was its
similarity to Jack Finney's books, except that here what's
good in Finney's books has all turned rotten. The husband and
wife aren't happily in love after years of marriage, instead
their toddler son was killed in an accident, the wife is a
lush, and the husband's lost his spirit. Still, the suburban
and office life, the details of the planning for the crime,
and a scene where a fawning underling quizzes the boss about
the details of his rattan furniture are in the Finney
style.
