Hi, Jack, That's interesting. The first page and a half was a
later add on to MP, after a conference with Larry Brown, who
was my reader at Breadloaf Writers Conference in 92. MP, as
my thesis, had started with Sherri on the corner hailing the
taxi, but Larry told me that it needed something more in the
beginning. I can't remember if he said backstory or what.
Editors always want more backstory from me, because I dislike
flashbacks, because of the pop psychology set up that is
generally implied. I had sent the book out a few times before
that to agents and gotten rejections, and the first time I
sent it out after the addition, I hit, but I don't know if it
was coincidence or improvement. Now I really wonder. However,
Sherri hailing a taxi probably doesn't have any more thrust,
but then not the addict idea. I've never read any "addict"
books so that never occurred to me. It's really interesting
to hear comments on the content, because I don't very often,
and I have no idea what people think about, except if they
like the stuff. Vicki
