The film was originally known as CUTTER AND BONE, but
retitled before release. There are some wonderful things in
it. The scene that introduces Cutter was invented by the
screenwriter, and contains some superb dialogue that is very
much in the spirit of Thornburg's writing.
Here in the UK, the book is currently available from
Serpent's Tail, with an introduction by George Pelecanos. The
same publisher also has TO DIE IN CALIFORNIA and DREAMLAND. I
believe that Thornburg's other 8 books are currently out of
print, but can be tracked down on the internet (though
GENTLEMAN BORN is very difficult to find).
