RARA-AVIS: Data base for mystery literature

There's a data base of approx 9000 authors, 30000 novels and 10000 short stories, devoted to mystery literature, available on the Web. It's the work of a French professional "documentaliste" (archivist) and the content is centred on French authors and French translations of foreign works.

Name: POLARS

It's fully searchable and gives the original titles of the translations, and the date of first publication for both. Also, the publishing history of each volume IN FRANCE (probably of less interest for most of the Avians).

You need Access (Microsoft) to exploit the data base which *must* be loaded in the same section of your computer as the program (normally on C: ).

I think it could be of interest for some of the Avians searching references for French and foreign authors. But it could help even for some Anglo-Saxons authors belonging to the more obscure side of the sphere of fame. It's not exhaustive but it's in continuous updating. And it's free…

Your French can be less than basic, as only a few words are necessary to enter and search.

Auteur = author Livre = book Traducteurs= translators Personnages = characters Titres = titles Editeurs, collections = publishers, inprints Ann饠= year Nom = name Pr鮯m = first name, given name, Christian name Roman (s) policier(s) = mystery novel(s) Roman = novel NOUVELLES = short stories Champ = field Rechercher = to search Impression = printing ( by your computer as well)

You may use it for your personal needs but it's forbidden to include it in any commercial exploitation or distribution.

To download it go to : http://simone.melchior.free.fr

It's compressed, so you have to unzip it first and then copy it on C:, where it will take approx 35 Mo. Click on the file MaBase.mdb to open it on its chapter selection page.

Hope this will be of help to some of you.
