If I remember correctly, THE DEEP END (which I have not read)
is based on Brown's longish short story called "Obit For
Obie" which was excellent. I'm always on the lookout for
Brown's books but they're in short supply around here. And
picking up on another thread, Brown is very good at
hardboiled humor.
Lansdale is funny, too, but one thing that strikes me about
his Hap Collins
- Leonard Pine series is how much sadness there is in it. I
mean, Hap is a loser. He's pushing 50 and doesn't have much
to show for his life. Maybe Hap is screwed? That would make
this series the most drawn-out noir ever.
