Duane,
If officially the new publisher (Le Seuil- which bought back
Baleine the original publisher) of Le Poulpe is continuing
the series, in fact they are not very interested by this type
of approach and cannot handle the heritage. We are now close
to two years since the take over and they published only 3
more titles. Everybody agree that it's finished, as
"adventurial publishing" of real popular lit. -as launched by
JB Pouy with Baleine- cannot easily be assimilated by a
mainstream publishing house. To remember: the quality of the
volumes of this series was very variable, but it was accepted
by the editor because any writer who was following the
guidelines was elegible to be published: beginner, first
writing candidate, confirmed professional, comics author...
As he confirmed during a discussion I had with him, Pouy
wanted to prove that small printing quantities with an
important number of titles could be commercially viable in
France, for real popular lit., if the publisher avoided fat
cats, high admin costs, crazy distribution costs, etc.. They
succeeded until two years ago.
