What I liked about that last paragraph of THE DOOMSTERS is
particularly that last line. If I'm remembering correctly,
Sue is Archer's ex-wife, who doesn't get mentioned much, if
at all, in the later books. Anyway, I really liked the
nostalgia mixed with longing and (as you put it) hostility. I
can't explain why I liked the feather bit exactly, but I like
the idea of the mind pursuing a memory that way.
And I love Chandler's writing pretty much
indiscriminately.
