Firstly, hello Susan and welcome to the list.
The joy in trashing Dorothy Sayers comes from the fact that
Russell James did it. He's a gifted features writer. He wrote
the piece in the context of a Crime Time edition devoted to
DLS, so his was a small and much needed dissenting voice.
There's nothing worse than an avalanche of praise.
But in writing a damning piece, a critic is not necessarily
denying the right of others to enjoy the subject. He's just
saying the subject is shit. Which is every critic's right,
isn't it?
