You oughtta check out the original adaptation. Much of
Huston's admittedly superior film is a shot-by-shot
recreation, and often the actor's seem to be mimicking the
first film, both in how they speak their lines and even in
their mannerisms.
It's not as good a film, but it's pretty interesting to
watch. Huston's version seems to owe at least as much to this
earlier film as it does to Hammett's novel.
