I agree with Jim Doherty that *The Godfather* is a hardboiled
epic. So is the earlier Wambaugh.
Someone else mentioned George Pelecanoes' connected novels.
I'll buy that too.
Reluctantly, I have to agree that Elroy's *L.A. Confidential*
is an epic hardboiled piece.
I'm sure the hardboiled epic in one novel could be written
again but it will take someone with a name or someone else
with a hell of a talent to make it work so that the world
knows about it.
