Can we apply Joseph Campbell's monomyth, as described in THE
HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES, to THE MALTESE FALCON? Or some
part of it? Brigid, Gutman, and Cairo are on a quest, but a
demented greedy one. Spade's on a different quest--I suppose
all detectives are in each case they have.
