Yes indeed, based on the real Yorkshire Ripper, a case
lasting 10 years and ending with contested official
conclusions. Involved police services, at all levels, were
apparently as rotten as the killer. Even more, probably. But
Peace's novels are not really procedurals and they transcend
the factual side of the reality of the case of the YR.
