miker, long years ago I wrote a fanzine article on David
Goodis. At the time I knew bupkis about noir (which is about
what I still know, judging from the discussions here), but I
knew a lot about Frank Norris and naturalism (did a master's
thesis on that topic). The whole thrust of my Goodis article
was that his books were in a direct line of descent from the
naturalistic writers like Norris.
